Ava & Charlotte

The Panfil family commissioned these two artworks of sisters Ava & Charlotte upon seeing some of my older work with similar details. I wanted to take the foundation of my past work and build onto it with additional paper and fabric details. For these pieces I started with their profiles cut from pink cardstock paper, from here I created a template for their hair. Before finalizing the hair I created multiple flowers (from Lia Griffith’s templates) using solid color origami paper to create lush crowns. The finished hair was created from patterned origami paper that I seamed together and then attached to the pink cardstock. The base oval for the silhouettes was covered with yellow and white polka dot fabric before adhering all the various pieces together. Charlotte, whom likes to layer necklaces was my inspiration for the yellow paper necklaces around the bases of the paper silhouettes. The last step was creating a custom pattern design for the background fabric incorporating digital illustrations of the flowers that were used to create the crown. The family was delighted with the final works and are now the first thing you see when you enter their home, I couldn’t be happier with the end result.
